A MENTAL health charity is set to close down amidst claims from its chief executive of alleged mismanagement and employment disputes which she says have contributed to its closure.

On Tuesday, Ulverston Mind announced earlier this week that it would soon bring its mental health services to an end.

The mental health charity is set to cease operations in the south Cumbria town at the end of October.

Following this week’s closure announcement, the organisation’s CEO has made a series of explosive allegations concerning the charity’s trustees and their administration of the charity.

CEO Jane Gordon claims the closure came after a year of bitter internal wrangling, arguing this week’s decision down to alleged 'mismanagement'.

She also said she was excluded from the decision to close the charity, and that she was ‘prevented from participation in finding ways to avoid closure including contacting our funders, supporters and councillors’.

She explained: “Indeed I was also sadly unaware of yesterday’s statement from trustees on our social media Facebook page until alerted by people who were devastated by the announcement,” she said in a letter addressed to The Gazette - in which she also said the trustees were ‘unaccountable’.

Ms Gordon claims the decision to close Ulverston Mind followed on from a year of ‘serious internal employment complaints’, alleged harassment and threats to staff, staff allegedly having been ‘bullied out of jobs’, alleged safeguarding issues, as well as claims of health and safety concerns.

The CEO said she now faces statutory redundancy along with a number of other staff members at the organisation. The Gazette put the series of claims to the trustees of the mental health charity.

In response, Helen Shacklady, chairman of Ulverston Mind and one of the organisation's trustees, made a statement, stating that they were unable to comment on the individual claims due to their confidential nature.

She explained: "The trustees aim to be as transparent as possible, but we are unable to comment on these issues as this is confidential.”s this is confidential.”
