Black and white photo: Wimborne Model town opened in 1951 and was situated in West Row behind the Cornmarket. The new attraction opened in late in 1951 and was completed by 1954.  The attraction was very successful for two decades until a decline in the late 1970s meant the model town closed its doors in 1983.  The site was sold for development and the miniature buildings languished until a new charity was set up and a new greenfield site found in King Street.  The attraction was rebuilt by volunteers and reopened in 1991.
