A DEESIDE man conquered Britain's three highest peaks in memory of his two-year-old daughter who lost a battle with a rare cancer.

Stewart Davies, from Garden City completed the Three Peaks Challenge - which is to climb Wales, Scotland and England's highest mountains in under 24 hours - in 23 hours and 20 minutes.

The 49-year-old battled strong winds and heavy rain and even hail, sleet and snow in a gruelling challenge in memory of his daughter Amelia-Mae, who died in 2013 following a battle with neuroblastoma - a rare form of childhood cancer.

In her memory, the Amelia-Mae Foundation was set up to help support families with children are battling the condition - for which Stewart was raising money for.

Over the weekend, as part of a 15-strong group he climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland - where the team even encountered snow, sleet and hail, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Mount Snowdon and has raised upwards of £7,000 for the charity.

Stewart said: "Snowdon tested us to our limits. Within touching distance of the summit and we nearly turned back due to the gusting winds but decided to power through.

"It was touch and go for a while but to say I’m proud of everyone who took part in all teams is an understatement.

"I've completed many such challenges but considering the weather and travel involved it was right up there in terms of difficulty."

Last week would have seen Amelia-Mae celebrate her 10th birthday, and Stewart said he "couldn't have of a better way to honour her memory than to do this challenge" in the knowledge that "she would be so happy knowing I was making others smile in her memory".
