A VINEYARD is toasting its own success after it won top awards in a national wine competition.

The Tuffon Hall vineyard in Sible Hedingham has won awards for its wine in the highly prestigious Wines of Great Britain Awards 2020.

The competition attracts more than 1,000 wines from 41 countries.

It is a blind tasting competition with experts sampling and choosing the winning wines.

Tuffon Hall has been awarded a gold prize for its Beatrice Pinot Rosé 2019 while also picking up a silver award for its Amelie Bacchus 2019.

The vineyard’s Bacchus also picked up a silver award at the recent London Wine Competition 2020.

The judging panel, although reduced due to the coronavirus pandemic, included some big names including wine expert Oz Clarke.

Pod Crowther, of Tuffon Hall, said: “We are absolutely delighted our wines and grape gin have been recognised in global and national awards this year.

“Last year was a fantastic year for growing grapes in England and we work extremely hard as a small family run boutique vineyard to produce the best quality products.

“We know our customers, both trade and consumer, find quality and provenance extremely important and these wines demonstrate that.

“As for all businesses, 2020 has been rather challenging, so these awards really help us to share our story and ultimately grow our business.”

Tuffon Hall has been forced to cancel its Jazz in the Vines event, but is planning its return next summer.

In the meantime, the vineyard plans to host two wine tasting tours on Saturday, August 22.

The tours last an hour and let visitors sample the award-winning wines. Tickets costs £10 a head.
