ANOTHER two deaths linked to coronavirus have been recorded in the Braintree district.

The latest data released by the Office for National Statistics shows the overall number of fatalities recorded in the region now stands at 121.

One of the newly announced deaths happened in a care home, while the other was in hospital.

The data is correct as of July 31.

The news comes as the infection rate in the district continues to fall.

Only seven new cases have been recorded in the past week, with the overall total now at 518 since the pandemic began.

The lower number of cases has seen the infection rate drop to 2.6 per 100,000 people.

It means the district has the sixth lowest rate in Essex at the moment - a significant improvement to last month when it had the highest.

A surge in cases was blamed on an outbreak of coronavirus in a care home.
