A DRAMA society have launched a new take on the classic works of Shakespeare to fit the new socially distanced rules.

The Sudbury Dramatic Society have launched 'Shake Spears', a film tour which sees members performing small extracts from Shakespeare plays in various places around The Quay Theatre.

The recorded performance is a rebranded and improved adaptation of the group's 2014 'Shakespeare Unleashed'.

Members of the society can be seen showing of their acting chops around The Quay Theatre with local opera singer, Mark Saberton also adding his skills to the mix.

A spokesman said: "The Quay Theatre obtained the funding for the filming, and Offshoot Films made it all happen.

"The actors directed each other and costumes were sourced from our own costume department, Quay Costumes, based upstairs at the theatre.

"Now the dark wings are full of witches, Falstaff is in the bar, Juliet (but not as you’ve ever seen her before) is on the balcony, Jacques in the dressing room, everyone is in the costume department (but not at the same time), and so on.

"Here is your opportunity to travel with us into those parts of The Quay Theatre rarely visited by the public, and to be entertained by actors ecstatic to be able to flex their acting muscles once again."

The video is online an available to watch for free.

Shake Spears for The Quay can be seen on The Quay Online website at www.online.quaysudbury.com or by following the link from the Sudbury Dramatic Society website at www.sudburydramatic.com.

The group are also appealing for donations to The Quay Theatre, which has been closed since the lockdown was imposed more than three months ago.

A spokesman added: "Please take a look and if you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it, we hope that you will make a donation to the fund to keep our much-loved theatre open for the future."
