A SPORTS club is celebrating after a major funding boost paved the way for a brand new pitch.
The Earls Colne Recreation Club has managed to secure just over £87,500 from Bellway’s De Vere Road housing development in the village.
The money is a massive boost to the club which is home to a number of sports clubs.
Now the club is set to improve its facilities with a new multi-use games area.
The move aims to bring in new groups and sports, including football and netball.
A club spokesman said: “At Earls Colne Recreation Club we have been very fortunate and have been awarded £87,524 in funding from the Bellway De Vere Road development in Earls Colne.
“The funding is to go towards a MUGA – multi-use games area.
“We opted for this rather than a 3G pitch as we are a community facility and a MUGA can be used for a variety of different sports.
“We are hoping to attract some different groups, netball, walking football, walking netball and five-aside.
“If there are any groups interested then please email Info@ecrc.uk.
"Work has started and we aim to have it completed and ready to use at the beginning of August."
