A NEW housing development will be named in memory of a village’s war-time aviation heritage.
The 90-home estate, off Station Road in Earls Colne, has been named Harvard Place.
The Harvard Warbird was a Second World War fighter trainer used by the USAAF and RAF.
Earls Colne Airfield was built during the war and nearby Marks Hall became the headquarters of the US Ninth Air Force Bomber Command.
Budding pilots can still experience the thrill of flying a Harvard Warbird at the flying school at Earls Colne.
The new housing development is being built by Bellway.
Sales director Jenny Walker said: “Earls Colne has a rich aviation history and we are proud to be honouring that heritage by naming our new development Harvard Place.”
The company says it is also investing £500,000 in the village’s infrastructure and facilities, including primary education, secondary school transport, outdoor sport, allotments, play space and healthcare, as part of the planning agreement with Braintree Council.
