VILLAGERS in Earls Colne have been keeping the community spirit alive by holding a street music event which saw more than £100 raised for the NHS.

Residents on De Vere Road were treated to three hours of music with one of the street’s residents spinning the discs.

The event, which was staged by Paul Woodworth, aimed to raise money for the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals’ Covid-19 fund.

Arline Sloan lives in the street and helped to organise the bash.

She said: “We organised a street music event in De Vere Road playing music requested by De Vere Road.

“We had a bucket to raise money for Colchester and Ipswich hospitals for their Covid-19 fund.

“A fab time was had by all, with social distancing, and people stayed safe while enjoying the music in their front gardens and driveways.

“The next event will be for VE Day on May 8 and we will be raising money for PPE and Colchester General again.

“I organised it, but I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the road for being amazing and donating.

“We have all come together and it’s been wonderful to live here.

“We are always helping one another out and we have all become great friends.”

In total the event managed to raise £150 for charity.

Arline also made a special mention and thank you to DJ Paul and Ashlea Knight for illustrating the collection bucket.
