A TURKEY farm is going the extra mile to support residents during the coronavirus outbreak.

G & J Barron Farms in Pattocks Farm, Chappel has launched a mobile shop for residents of nearby villages.

Using one of their tractors and a trailer, the farm has set out to deliver much needed fruit, veg and meat to vulnerable residents and areas with no shops.

Sarah Barron has been leading the charge.

She said: “We rear free range turkeys for Christmas and have a farm shop which we only open for 3 days at Christmas.

“We also sell vegetables and other items for Christmas lunch.

“Due to the difficulties many people have been having with the supermarkets, a few villagers asked us to open our farm shop again.

“We didn’t want to put our farm workers at risk by having people come to the farm and we are busy with work on the land.

“My husband Ross and I thought about how we could help people during these extreme circumstances and decided the best way we could help was to provide some meat, vegetables and fruit so that people could have the things they need to make a basic meal.

“The idea behind the tractor and trailer was to enable me to take the produce around the villages of Great Tey, Little Tey and Aldham.

“These villages do not have any shops and there are quite a few vulnerable residents.

“The trailer deliveries have received such a positive response.

“For some people I am the only the person they see all week.

“I am also able to box up produce and deliver to those in isolation.

“I take all payments on card machine which linked to my phone so I can stand a distance away from the customer.”

The farms efforts have been recognised by the community with even the Guild for Fine Foods shining a light on their noble work.
