A PLAY depicting the Easter story has been postponed until next year.

The Last Days passion play was due to open this week at the Bridge Church with the final performance April 3 to tell the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

It would have been the first time a passion play had been performed in Bolton since a production in Victoria Square in 2016, which was watched by thousands.

But now amid the coronavirus pandemic, the decision has been taken to postpone the performance.

It is one of a number of events in Bolton to be cancelled in light of the current crisis.

Rob Slater, who was to play the part of Jesus, having played in The Passion Play in Victoria Square in 2016 said the production would take to the stage in the lead up to Easter 2021.

In the wake of the covid-19 outbreak, churches in Bolton are currently live streaming services into people’s homes.
