TWO mums are selling cut-price posh frocks to make sure youngsters can afford to have a ball at their school proms.

Stacey Theedom and Jodi Stigant have launched their new business, the Isobel Cole boutique, in Halstead.

They founded the firm as they were worried some schoolgirls are missing out on their proms because they can’t afford to spend hundreds of pounds on a dress.

The Halstead duo’s fledgling business means teenagers can get their hands on a frock for a fraction of the sometimes mouthwatering prices paid by youngsters and their families.

Stacey, 32, said: “Jodi's son attended his prom last year.

“A lot of the girls didn’t go because it’s so hideously expensive so we’ve set up a business to make it affordable.

“We are selling new and nearly new prom dresses and occasion wear which are all reasonably priced.

“The idea is to make it affordable for everyone so no child has to miss out.”

Mum-of-three Stacey says a pricey prom dress can set parents back a whopping £400, or even as much as £500 in some cases.

“Life is tough and life is expensive,” she said.

“But our dresses start from £25 and the most expensive is £85 and you’d never know the difference.

“You would normally pay around £100 for a decent occasion wear dress but ours are £15 to £65.

“We wouldn’t have anything we wouldn’t put ourselves or our daughters in.

“We source them from all over the place.

“We are gifted some and managed to get quite a few discontinued dresses - that’s how we keep our prices so low because we work hard to get them at low prices.”

Stacey and Jodi were set stage an open day at D-Fine hairdressing salon, in Rosemary Lane, on Saturday, March 28.

The event was set to feature hair and make-up demos, but it has now been postponed until further notice.

There would have been a selection of Isobel Cole dresses for visitors to try to buy on the day.

However, with the emergence of coronavirus, the event was in doubt and has now been delayed until later this year.

Isobel Cole is still set to collaborate with the hairdressers on the event and the two firms are also offering an “ultimate occasion package” including hair, make-up, nails, tanning and lashes as well as discount on dresses.
