THE clash of steel will ring around historic Hedingham Castle as jousting returns this Easter.

Fight fans can look forward to two full days of armoured action as the castle reverts back to its Norman root for the bank holiday.

The Knights of Middle England are a team of professional horsemen, jousters, stunt riders and actors, who are set to bring the fabled sport back to what is considered the best preserved Norman keep in England.

Visitors can enjoy a weekend of stunts and chivalry as the Black Knight and his fool return to wage havoc against the Earl of Warwick and his noble companions.

The knights are set to put on a spectacular show with an awesome display of saddle falls, drags and rearing horses.

The main event will also be surrounded by a bustling arena full of craft stalls, a range of food and a host of themed entertainment.

Also coming to the event is Henry Hotspur – the UK’s only rolling jousting horse.

The full-sized mechanical horse will thunder – or ride gently for children – down the list carrying you toward authentic jousting practice targets.

Wannabe knights of all ages can give it a go in full medieval armour.

Visitors can also try their hand at archery with the Norfolk Longbowmen and there will also be period musicians, Maypole dancers and the ever-popular birds of prey.

A medieval hand-fasting ceremony makes its debut at the castle this year.

Couples have the chance to be bound to their loved one in an authentic, traditional ceremony as they tie the knot.

There are also craft stalls, food vendors, donkey rides, coconut shies and the Castle Tavern to provide a full day of excitement and thrilling spectacle for the whole family.

Events manager Alistair McMillan said: “We are very excited to launch our 2020 events season with our Easter joust.

“It really is the perfect family day out.”

The event is on April 12-13, from 10am to 5pm. Tickets cost £15 (£13 over-65s, £10 under-18s) or £42 for a family ticket. Under-fives admission is free.

There is a 10 per cent discount for advanced tickets booked online.
