SCHOOLCHILDREN across the Halstead area dressed up as their favourite characters to celebrate the wonderful world of books.
Youngsters got especially creative for the 23rd annual World Book Day this year.
World Book Day is a charity with a mission to give every child a book of their own.
It also celebrates authors, illustrators, books and reading and is designated by Unesco as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, in more than 100 countries.
School pupils dressed up as their favourite characters from books such as Harry Potter, Snow White, Spider-Man and many more.
Publishers and booksellers send book tokens to nearly 15 million children – almost one for every child aged under 18 in the country.
Children can then use them at booksellers to claim one of ten exclusive free books.
