A DESPERATE mother is pleading with housing bosses to end a ten-year nightmare by giving her the green light to install a driveway outside her home.

Debbie Shaw says she has been the subject of hate mail, threats and verbal abuse due to her ongoing parking problems in Blois Road, Steeple Bumpstead.

Ms Shaw, who is 55, is forced to park on the road near to her home because there is no allocated parking space for the property, which she was given by Greenfields Housing a decade ago.

This has led to clashes with neighbours and members of the public, and has also seen Ms Shaw’s car written off after it was hit by another vehicle while parked near to her house back in January.

Ms Shaw’s situation is made all the more complicated due to 36-year-old daughter Laura’s mental disabilities, which means she needs to park as close to her home as possible.

She said: “It took us a long time to get this place so it’s upsetting we are still having to fight for this.

“Car parking can have a really big impact on your life and this has been very traumatic for both me and my daughter.

“We’ve had all sorts of threats and abuse from neighbours and drivers because we have to park in the road.

“My daughter’s carers have also been abused.”

Ms Shaw says he has had numerous requests for a driveway rejected but is pleading with the authorities to find a solution as soon as possible.

She added: “It has been ten years of unnecessary stress and it’s something that could be easily solved by a bit of common sense.

“I live near a corner which is why they won’t allow a dropped kerb.

“They say it’s dangerous but how is that any different to my car getting written off when it is parked in the road?

“I have health problems myself now and am eligible for a blue badge.

“I’m tired of fighting this and just want it to be sorted.”

A spokesman for Greenfields said: “We have previously arranged for an occupational therapist to carry out an assessment of Ms Shaw’s home.

“Although that did not highlight the need for a driveway, we are happy to support Ms Shaw and assess if her needs have changed.”
