A NEW venture has been launched to boost tourism across the Braintree district.

Council bosses have set up a new website which has been designed by experts to promote the area to visitors and show what is on offer.

Called Visit Braintree District, the website provides suggestions for places to visit, such as Braintree Village, museums and parks.

It also has details on upcoming events and places to eat and drink.

Braintree Council's tourism boss Frankie Ricci said: "We are very lucky to have a district that is rich in history and culture and there’s a lot to shout about, from museums celebrating our heritage, our vibrant market towns and villages, and our abundance of visitor attractions.

"Tourism brings over £205million into our local economy every year and provides over 3,300 jobs, so we believe there are opportunities to increase tourism by working with our partners, and this website is the start to showcase the Braintree district as a key tourist destination in the East of England.”

The website also has its own accounts on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Those who follow the accounts will be entered into a competition which could see them win prizes.

Residents are being encouraged to share their own experiences and views of tourist destinations in the district, while event organisers and business owners are encouraged to upload information onto the website for free.
