ALERT police who spotted a car that had no tax in Devizes on Sunday morning stopped it on the Hopton Industrial Estate.

Several police cars were called to the scene as one of the occupants was also found to be in possession of cannabis.

A Devizes police spokesman said: "Officers from team two stopped an Audi. It was seized because it had no road tax and one of the occupants is to be spoken with regarding his possession of cannabis."

The same police team also went to an accident on the road between Rowde and St Edith's Marsh on Sunday morning after a tree came down across the road.

A spokesman said: "A tree had come down causing vehicles to stop and a second vehicle collided with the stationary traffic.

On Saturday evening community police officers from Devizes were also kept busy. A spokesman said: "In amongst all the weather related logs business as usual has continued.

"An uninsured vehicle has been seized in Marlborough and a missing person from our area was located safe and well.

"The late night town centre foot patrol was also conducted as usual, with one disorder in the Market Place now under investigation."
