AN exciting railway event is rolling into Chappel and Wakes Colne station this week.

The East Anglian Railway Museum is hosting its popular Diesel Day during half term, giving visitors the chance to take part in the full classic train experience.

Railway fans will get the chance to explore the vintage carriages and enormous goods shed as they check out of the the grand old locomotives currently under restoration at the museum.

Best of all, visitors can have an unlimited number of rides on one of the museum’s classic diesel-powered trains.

Museum spokesman Catherine Harrison said: “Wrap up warm this half-term and blow away those winter cobwebs with a day of family fun at the East Anglian Railway Museum.

“Diesel locomotives will be running all day long and, as well as the train-themed playground, the kids love exploring the old railway carriages, coaches and wagons, and there is a working signal box to operate as well.

“The museum is in the middle of two fields so there’s loads of room to play and favourite children’s entertainer, Steff and her cheeky monkeys Nonsense and Mischief will be performing some silly antics, crazy magic, pranks and games.

Diesel Day takes place on Wednesday, from 10am to 4.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.

Discounts are available if tickets are booked online and there is a ten per cent discount for visitors arriving by train.

More Diesel Day events are coming up in the May and October half-terms.
