THERE has been little to cheer for Southend United’s supporters so far this season.

But Tuesday night’s trip to Peterborough United will bring back happier memories.

For back in 2009 Jean-Francois Christophe scored a stunning overhead kick in an unexpected 2-1 triumph for the Shrimpers.

And Christophe still believes it was the best goal of his career.

“It’s definitely the best goal of my career,” said the 32-year-old.

“An overhead kick for a midfielder and now a defender is still a dream and of course I still remember it.

“I still remember every second of it.”

Christophe joined the Shrimpers from Portsmouth in September 2008 and went on to make 69 appearances while with Roots Hall.

And the midfielder looks back on his time at Blues with great fondness.

“Southend United sounds very good to me,” said Christophe.

“The town, the football ground , the fans , my ex team mates, it very good time in my life and I really enjoyed my time up there.”

But it was not just scoring the overhead kick at Peterborough which sticks in Christophe’s mind.

“The highlight for me was when the manager Steve Tilson asked me to stay at Southend,” said Christophe.

“I liked that he had confidence in me and I was really happy when my best friend Francis Laurent, who is now a big agent, signed too.

“Plus how can I forget playing Chelsea away and at home.

“We played against Drogba and Anelka, lots of good French players .

“But to be fair I really enjoyed my time at Southend.”

Christophe left the Shrimpers in 2010 and is now enjoying playing closer to home.

“I’m still playing football and I’m with US Vimy in the north of France,” said Christophe.

“You can’t stop playing football like this.

“I’m the captain of this team and to be fair we aren’t too bad .

“I’m working for Audi in Avion and I really like my job here.

“People live football in Lens so I’m very happy every day.

“I thank god for my past, my present and tomorrow and I wish Southend well too.”
