A FUNDRAISER is furious after yobs vandalised her charity Christmas decorations.

Helen Day says her festive garden decorations were stamped on and kicked over by teenage vandals.

It is the third year in a row the fundraising display in her garden in Oxford Meadows, Sible Hedingham, has been attacked.

Mrs Day is so angry she is no longer staging her usual Christmas charity collection which raises vital cash for Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

She even claims her collection bucket is regularly targeted by thieves.

It normally collects a small amount of cash donated by passers-by, but Mrs Day says there have now been two attempts on her inflatables and the collection money in the last two weeks.

“Its absolutely disgusting,” she said.

“They just don’t care. They just do it because they’re bored and don’t fear any consequences.

“There’s nothing else for the kids to do around here.”

The vandals caused £150 of damage to her spectacular Christmas decorations.

“We’re always worrying,” said Mrs Day.

“I’m frightened my decorations are going to be destroyed.

“I know they live around here – I’ve seen them run off and jump into their car and speed away.

“They almost crashed in to another car speeding off so fast.”

She tried to report the attack to the police.

“I called them but had to wait before being transferred and then was stuck waiting again,” said Mrs Day. “It said I was in a queue with about five other people so I just gave up.

“The police won’t do anything anyway – they don’t see this kind of thing as an emergency.”

Mrs Day usually rounds up the cash raised by the displays to £100 with her own money.

This year she said she will simply donate the money herself because she is sick of people trying to steal the money – sometimes in broad daylight.

Security cameras have now been installed in a bid to combat the vandalism, but Mrs Day says the decorations will be taken down if they are damaged again.
