LATE-night shopping came to Oxford on September 5, 1985 without the Saturday-style stampede.
About 50 shops , large and small, stayed open until 8pm.
Gerry and Sally Wright and daughter Louise, nine, travelled in from their home in Bicester.
Shoes and school clothes were among the items high on their shopping list.

Mr Wright said: "Oxford is a terrible place to shop at a weekend. I haven't been in for a long time. But now it is not crowded, and people aren't standing on your toes all the time."
The new move followed successful late-evening shopping sessions the previous Christmas. More shops were expected to join in over the following few months.
