A CYCLIST suffered life-changing leg injuries after being hit by a car – which then sped off when police officers arrived.

The collision occurred just after 6pm on the A350 in Westbury.

A BMW M5 was travelling south approaching the Coach Road junction when it collided with the cyclist, a man in his 40s from Trowbridge. He was then rushed to Southmead Hospital.

Wiltshire Police says that the four occupants of the BMW all left the scene when officers arrived.

They were then located walking nearby and arrested.

Three men and one woman, aged between 21 and 46, were arrested on suspicion of multiple offences including causing injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, and drink driving.

They all remain in Melksham custody for questioning and our enquiries continue.

The road was closed for eight hours while a full scene examination was conducted.

PC Peter Williamson said: “This was a serious collision which has left a local man suffering serious life changing injuries which will require surgery today.

“I am keen to hear from any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have been driving along the A350 at this time who may have dash cam footage which could significantly help with our investigation.”
