A SUSPECTED rapist has been arrested in the centre of town.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested after police cars swooped on New Road, Brighton, last night at about 5.30pm.
The Brighton man was arrested on suspicion of possession cannabis, suspicion of rape, theft and stalking without fear alarm, or distress.
He remains in police custody at this stage.
While officers were at the scene, a 23-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
Billie-Rose Dellow, a kitchen worker from Swanborough Place, Brighton has now been charged with the offence.
She will appear before Brighton Magistrates' Court on November 7.
A Sussex Police spokesman said the arrest was not connected to an appeal to find a man suspected of attacking three women in July.
