NON-LEAGUE teams switched their attention to cup football on a busy night of action.

Three ties took place in the Essex Senior Cup and there was a third-round showdown between STANWAY ROVERS and Chelmsford City.

Rovers were hoping to cause an upset against their National League South visitors but it was the Clarets who ran out 4-1 winners.

Curtis Haynes-Brown was on target for Danny Slatter’s side, scoring with a towering header from a corner.

Elsewhere, there was a third-round contest between MALDON AND TIPTREE and WIVENHOE TOWN.

This one also followed the formbook as Maldon, top of BetVictor Isthmian League division north, ran out 7-1 winners.

Jorome Slew (two), Hanza Kaid, Danny Parish (three) and Joseph Wicks scored for the Jammers, with Connor Smith replying for Gary Monti’s Dragons.

BRAINTREE TOWN were in county cup action and won 2-1 at home to Tilbury.

Alfie Cerulli and an own goal saw them into the fourth round, with ties taking place on or before November 7.

It was also an eventful night in the Thurlow Nunn League’s First Division Knockout Cup.

LITTLE OAKLEY came from behind to defeat visitors HOLLAND FC 3-1.

Bailey Barnard's penalty put Holland ahead but the Acorns fought back thanks to Shaun Kioussis' spectacular leveller and further goals from Harry Miller and Luke Mayhew.

HARWICH AND PARKESTON were too strong for Cornard United, running out 5-1 winners.

Jordan Heath (two), Kevin Coyle (two) and Charlie Cook scored for the Shrimpers.

HALSTEAD TOWN had the edge against Haverhill Borough, winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Rocha Fosker, Chris Harris and substitute Ricky Gardner, while COGGESHALL UNITED were 4-1 winners at Ipswich Wanderers.

All four matches were second-round encounters.

There was one tie of note in group one of the Velocity Trophy, as COGGESHALL TOWN won 2-0 at HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS.

Conor Hubble and Rob Harvey scored for the Seedgrowers.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC made progress in the Suffolk Premier Cup, winning 2-0 at Mildenhall Town thanks to goals from Sean Gunn and Patrick Brothers, while BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT thumped Alresford Colne Rangers 8-1 in the Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup.

Josh Gould (two), Billy Hunt (two), Ricky Griggs, Romario Dunne, Lamell Howell and Adam Hampson netted for the R’s.
