DAGENHAM 97

CLACTON 7

Essex League division one

A SECOND defeat on the road has left Clacton at the bottom of the table and they will be looking to turn things round in their next fixture against Writtle Wanderers.

Dagenham are favourites for promotion and there was a surprise when they were not put up a division at the end of last season.

Clacton battled throughout but conceding 15 tries made for a very long afternoon, plus a long trip home from Central Park.

Sam Swift managed to get the ball over the Dagenham try-line, with Elliott Shuttleworth adding the conversion points.

With the Rugby World Cup activity building up, the Seasiders now have a two-week break before returning to league action against Writtle at Vista Road on October 19.

MISTLEY MARAUDERS 7

CLACTON KESTRELS 76

Eastern Counties League division three south

CLACTON'S Kestrels made the short trip to Furze Hill and ran in 12 tries for a convincing victory.

The visitors now have an excellent blend of youth and experience and could prove to be a handful in this division.

Despite the scoreline, the match remained competitive to the end and was sensibly and well-refereed by stand-in official Simon Carter.

Lewis Sheekey bagged a hat-trick of tries, while the other scores came from Lee Amman (two), Andy Luton (two) and one apiece from Dan Land, Josh Allen, Matt Lafferty and James Bond, with a penalty try completing the dozen.

Richie Turner managed to convert seven of them.

The Rugby World Cup has meant a break in league activity for a couple of weeks but the Kestrels have arranged a home friendly fixture with Braintree's third team on Saturday.

Kick-off at Vista Road is at 3pm.
