A VOLUNTEER police officer has been hailed a hero after he and a colleague saved the life of a vulnerable woman who had harmed herself.

Special constable Joe Pearson was on duty with PC Kate Matthews when the pair were called to an address in Braintree following concerns for a woman.

The duo received no response from the homeowner when knocking on the door and it was only when they went around the back they could see a woman inside who was unconscious.

The officers managed to gain access to the property and provided emergency first aid to the lady who was kept safe and comfortable until the ambulance team arrived.

SC Pearson has since spoken to the family who thanked the two officers for their help in their time of crisis. The woman has since been making a steady recovery.

SC Pearson said: “It’s very kind of the family to thank me and Kate as we were just doing our job, even if mine is a volunteering role. I’m just glad to hear that the lady is recovering well.

“Volunteering as a special is a great and rewarding opportunity as it means I get to help keep vulnerable people safe.”
