SEEING his team sitting second in the Vanarama National League South form table is making Braintree Town manager Glen Driver a very proud man at the moment.

Following a 2-2 draw at top-six side Concord Rangers on Tuesday night, the 13 points Iron have now picked up in their last six games means it is only leaders Wealdstone who are above them in the recent form guide.

While he was frustrated they were pegged back to a 2-2 draw after leading 2-1 against ten men at Concord Rangers rather than being able to push on and secure a third consecutive win, Driver was pleased to see his team match a side who he feels will be challenging for the play-offs this year.

He said: “To be fair, we came away and it felt like a loss after we had gone a goal up against ten men.

“The incentive was on us to use the extra man, which we did not do well enough, but fair play to Concord.

“However, poor we were in the second half, they conducted themselves very well.

“I felt we played better against 11 than we did ten, but looking back at the game, we have come up against a side who I think are the second or third best side we’ve faced so far and will be one of the better ones in the league and are disappointed with a point.

“The way they go about their business and play their football with the way the mix it up is very good, so to come away with a point shows me how far we have come.

“We are second in the form guide from the last six games and that has to be pleasing for us.

“Had we conducted ourselves better in that second half, it could have been all three, but we’ve come away from Concord with a point and it’s a very good point.

“The only disappointment is that we created more chances with them having 11 players on the pitch and we missed chances to put it to bed and we just have to be better in those crucial moments.

“Look at the league table and you’ll see that we have now scored 18 goals and conceded 16.

“That puts us joint-second in the number of goals scored in the division, so there are so many positives to take at the moment.

“However, it shows that we have to be better defensively as a group.

“We are second in the form guide, though, and that makes me so proud of what this group of players are doing.

“When you look at how far we’ve come in such a short time, that really is great.”
