Ladies enjoyed an afternoon of leisure at an outdoor summer party.

Halstead Women’s Institute hosted an Ascot-themed garden party and president Cheryl Woods, who hosted the event, said it was a great success.

She said: “It was attended by 36 members and we were delighted to welcome Jan Curtis, chairman of the Women’s Institute Essex Federation.

“The committee worked very hard to produce sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and home-made jam followed by beautifully decorated cupcakes.

“There was a decorated hat competition which was won by two ladies who had replicated a tea party with teapot on one and cup on the other, with tea strainer, real biscuits and cakes.

“The best part was our horse racing game (pictured).”
