FAMED for his genre-spanning hit songs, intriguing outlaw image, dauntingly deep vocal and his iconic prison concerts, song-writing legend Johnny Cash was quite simply one of a kind – a maverick.

But a tribute band devoted to paying homage to the American country singer comes close to accurately portraying every aspect of the famed Man in Black’s on-stage abilities.

Keep It Cash was formed in 2001 before starting to gig a year later.

It is the product of the years of dedication its members spent honing their craft.

The show documents Johnny Cash’s nearly 50-year journey navigating through the music industry, from his humble beginnings with the Tennessee Three, who went on to be his backing band for 25 years, to his final recordings.

Along the way his vast discography will of course be dipped into, with the crème de la crème of Cash tracks, such as Ring Of Fire, I Walk The Line and Folsom Prison Blues, all getting a convincing airing.

Having performed hundreds of sold-out shows across the world, in countries such as France, the USA, Australia and Germany, the band’s wealth of experience and well-travelled time on the road will see them well-versed in putting on a pitch perfect homage to the great man, who died at the age of 71 in 2003, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide.

His crossover appeal had won him the rare honour of being inducted into the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music halls of fame.

Keep It Cash is at Sudbury’s Quay Theatre at 7.30pm this evening.

Tickets are £17 from quaysudbury.com.
