Last week, a group of local amateur golfers attempted a gruelling challenge to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK and Stand Up To Cancer.

The team of eight played 72 holes in one day at the Beaconsfield Golf Club, teeing off at 5am in order to complete the mammoth task by the end of the day.

Completing the challenge at 7.30pm, the team enjoyed perfect golfing conditions – with Phil Kilgour achieving a gross score of 67 and Robbie Christian eventually taking the prize for cumulative stableford points across the 72 holes.

Hordes of members from Beaconsfield Golf Club gathered at the 18th hole to congratulate the golfers and show support for the fundraising group.

In total, over £13,500 has been raised for the charities and the team are already planning their next charitable challenge – 100 holes in one day.

A member of the group said: “A special thanks must go to all of the caddy volunteers across the day who provided a welcome respite for all of the weary legs, the members who contributed so much to the cause, Beaconsfield golf club for all of their support.

“David Jennings for providing special catering throughout and finally to Stuart and his green keeping team who spent most of the day dodging certain members of the teams golf balls and providing a course in perfect condition.”
