A YOUNGSTER is spreading the word about making the environment greener at a festival this weekend.

Oliver Walker, who is just six years old, is making a pledge on the main stage at Planet Essex Festival at Cressing Temple Barns this weekend.

The Earls Colne Primary pupil came to the festival organisers’ attention after mum Vicky posted a video of him talking about his wishes for a greener environment and describing the ways people can act to make the planet a better place.

Vicky said: “I’m super proud – he’s always been obsessed with the dustbin men!

“The guys who do the recycling on our street are amazing and ever since he could walk they let him help out by putting the rubbish in the lorry.

“It’s really nice that he’s found that people want to talk about rubbish and he wants to tell people about it.

“It makes you think, if a six-year-old can get it then perhaps we need to stand up and take a bit of notice.”

The festival which is a celebration of everything sustainable, environmentally-friendly and local will be held on Saturday and could become the first of an annual event.

There will be a designated children’s area with a Forest School, drawing classes, natural crafts and a junk orchestra, with a screening of the Lorax at an outdoor cinema.

There will be 120 stallholders across the site offering a diverse range of products from make-up, food, sustainable clothing, upcycled products to name but a few.

Oliver is on the main stage at 12.15pm, followed by solo Atlantic rower and plastics campaigner Dawn Wood.
