A PERFORMING arts school has claimed top spot at a business awards ceremony.

Frederick Douglas Performing Arts, which is run by Halstead mother and daughter duo Deborah Marks and Leanne Field, won the Health and Welfare Family Business of the Year award for its musical movement sessions at local care homes and a children’s performing arts academy.

Deborah, who thanked the care homes she works with, said: “We are honoured to receive an award like this that recognises not just the success of our business but the most important element of our business – family.”

Paul Andrews, of award organisers Family Business United, said: “This may have been a bit of a surprise to our winners but health and welfare is what they do.

“They are great advocates of a healthy lifestyle and encourage others to follow their lead.

“They care passionately in what they do and are inspirational in the way that they change lives, the children whom they provide musical movement sessions, the residents of the care homes they visit and the adults with learning difficulties they encourage.”
