GREEN-FINGERED residents will have a chance to take a sneak peek into some of the stunningly landscaped gardens in the area this bank holiday weekend.

Rockwoods Garden and Washlands Garden in Sible Hedingham will be openg on bank holiday Monday.

The open days are part of the National Garden Scheme, which supports Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support, Hospice UK, Carers Trust, Queen’s Nursing Institute, Parkinson’s UK, MS Society, National Autistic Society, Horatio’s Garden and Mind.

Both gardens in Sible Hedingham will be raising funds for the National Garden Scheme’s charities.

Children are welcome and there is plenty of space for them to run around, including a buttercup field leading to a six-acre ancient wood.

Youngsters are also welcome to pick the buttercups.

Those who prefer a less energetic visit can linger on the terrace under the wisteria, looking out to the herbaceous borders and enjoy homemade teas.

Last year £3million was raised across the UK through the National Garden Scheme.

Rockwoods Garden and Washlands Garden are both wheelchair accessible and open from 10am to 4.30pm.

Tickets are £5 for each garden or £8 for a combined ticket.

Children go free.

The Bures Open Garden Committee is also taking advantage of the bank holiday to open up around 20 of its gardens.

Bures Mill is one of the favourite gardens open for viewing across Sunday and Monday.

The mill’s gardens are believed to date back to 1640 when the Mill House was built.

The garden is completely enclosed by a loop of the River Stour to the south and the mill leat to the north, and is rich in wildlife, including otters, herons, kingfishers and reed warblers which are hosts to the local cuckoos.

Tickets are £6 from St Mary’s Church, Bures Common, and all participating gardens.

All proceeds will go to St Helena Hospice, St Nicholas Hospice and St Mary’s Church.
