ENVIRONMENTAL workers have been hard at work creating a new waste collection vehicle to add to their fleet.

However, unlike their larger trucks, their latest addition has been designed to take part in the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race which takes place this Sunday, May 26.

It is built from scrap wood, donated parts and items recovered from fly-tips and the Uttlesford Council team who behind it have named it 'The Senna'.

More than 60 teams will battle it out to be crowned the winner of the race this weekend with jumps, near misses and the odd crash almost guaranteed.

Last year around 6,000 people turned out for the event with organisers expecting an even higher attendance this year.

Cash raised from this year's event will be split between three charities - Mind West Essex, St Clare Hospice and Great Dunmow Round Table.
