A DEDHAM pub is celebrating after being crowned the best venue in Essex.

The Sun Inn, in High Street, has been announced as the finest pub in the county by The National Pub and Bar Awards 2019.

The historic pub is owned by Piers Baker and is a former coaching inn, which dates back to the 15th century.

It is one of 94 winners which have been announced this week - one pub for each county in the UK.

Halstead Gazette:

The awards aim to put the finest pubs across the UK in the spotlight, showcasing how diverse and creative the hospitality industry is.

The pubs, which have been selected on overall best practice across a number of operational categories, will be officially crowned at a red carpet celebration in London May 22.

At the grand final, which is hosted by restaurant critic Jay Rayner, 15 regional winners will also be announced, as well as the esteemed accolade – the overall National Pub and Bar of the Year.

Halstead Gazette:

Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub and Bar Magazine, said: "Selecting this year’s 94 county winners has been nothing short of inspiring.

"From idyllic countryside pubs to inner city cocktail bars, this is the most eclectic and exciting industry in the world.
