TODAY is National Pet Day and we are celebrating our furry (and not so furry) friends who need homes.

National Pet Day was founded in 2006 to celebrate the joy pets bring and to create public awareness of the many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters and rescues all around the globe.

Danaher Animal Centre is an independent animal rescue centre in Wethersfield which helps to find the forever homes of dogs, cats and small animals all year round.

In 2018 they rehomed a total of 504 animals.

Some of the most common animals looking for homes are dogs, cats and rabbits.

On average a dog spend 60 days at Danaher waiting for its new owner to come and meet it.

Cats have an average stay of 72 days and rabbits can be there for around 100 days.

We want to see some of your rescued furry friends, so email your best pictures with your name and your pets name to charley.goff@newsquest.co.uk.
