A LIFT notorious for breaking down will undergo a two-week refurbishment.

The lift in Vineyard Street, Colchester, will undergo works from Friday, March 29.

The £7,000 revamp will include refurbishing and painting all the interior and exterior panelling, and vinyl graphics depicting some of Colchester’s best loved heritage sites will be installed to cover all the glass panes.

Due to the need for scaffolding and full access to the lift for the refurbishment, it will not be available for public use during the two-week project. Customers who use the lift are advised to plan ahead and seek alternative arrangements during the closure.

Martin Goss (Lib Dem) councillor responsible for environment and transport, said: “This lift is in real need of some attention and I am glad we can make this happen as part of our Better Colchester campaign.

“The new vinyl graphics which will be installed will really highlight and celebrate Colchester’s rich history and improve the aesthetics of this area of the town.”
