A TRIBUTE to a Dad’s Army legend is coming to the theatre in Sudbury.

Leading impressionist Julian Dutton is taking to the Quay Theatre stage to bring to life the man behind the wry smile and urbane English repartee that charmed millions and turned John Le Mesurier into a household name as Sergeant Wilson in Dad’s Army.

Dutton steps into comedy star Le Mesurier’s shoes and recounts the stories of his life.

As with many comedians, Le Mesurier’s life was not without tragedy.

Dutton’s performance tells the story of the star’s broken marriage to Hattie Jacques and the betrayal by his best friend Tony Hancock.

All these setbacks shook him, but his reputation as the quintessential ‘English gentleman’ never wavered.

Critics say Dutton’s performance is a “joyful and moving celebration of one of the most popular comic actors of our era”.

British Comedy Guide wrote: “You would think that John Le Mesurier was actually stood before you.

“An amazing biographical tale – look out for it on tour.”

The performance of Do You Think That’s Wise? - The Life and Times of John Le Mesurier is at the Quay Theatre in Sudbury on Friday, March 22.

Doors open at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £14 or £13 for friends of the theatre and can be bought from the box office on 01787 374745.
