A BUSY road in Braintree will remain closed for the rest of the day as work continues or repairing a burst water main.

Anglian Water says it hopes to reopen Notley Road late tomorrow once resurfacing work has been completed.

The road was closed late on Wednesday afternoon after a water main burst.

Drivers were unable to use the road, typically used as a cut through from the town centre, throughout yesterday and again this morning.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “Our teams are currently working to repair a burst water main on Notley Road in Braintree. Overland pipes were used to maintain supplies throughout the duration of the repair.

"A road closure is currently in place on Notley Road in order to allow our teams to work as quickly, and as safely, as possible.

"We anticipate the repair to the pipe itself to be completed later on this evening, with work to begin the resurfacing of the road starting tomorrow with the road closure expected to be lifted by the end of the day.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause local residents and road users, and we would like to thank them for their patience whilst we complete this work."
