CAMPAIGNERS are urging as many residents as possible to join them on a walk which is being held to protest against plans to build 78 homes.

The Heart of Witham Preservation Group will host the walk this Sunday to show opposition to the development at River View.

Campaigner Matthew Hill said: “Our campaign group has continually been approached by concerned Witham residents asking us what they can do to help stop this development and preserve the area for future generations.

“We wanted to do something to demonstrate that, for many people, walking along the River Walk, across the river and up through the park into town is an important part of their daily life.

"We are hopeful that once Braintree Council sees the unusually high number of residents who wish to be a part of our objection walking en masse, they may reconsider Witham Town Council’s request to relocate proceedings."

The walk begins at 11am at the duck pond with other walkers joining the route at Pattison Close at 11.30am, Helen Court at noon and the town park at 12.30pm.
