PUPILS spent their day with a popular children’s book author to celebrate the renaming of the nursery.

Nick Butterworth, famous for writing Percy the Park Keeper among other well loved children’s books and television shows, spent the day at Gosfield School on Tuesday.

Parents, teachers and pupils from the Prep School had the chance to meet Mr Butterworth as a celebration of the renaming of the school’s nursery as ‘Goslings Nursery and Forest School’.

Inspired by Mr Butterworth’s story telling and drawings, the children had a go at creating their own pictures, starting with hedgehogs and balloons for the youngest nursery and reception classes.

Year 6 pupils were given a story writing master class with the author.

Registrar Caro Daniels said she was thrilled to meet him.

She said: “Of all his amazing characters, he is probably best known for Percy and all of his animal friends – which is why we were so keen that he should visit us to celebrate the renaming of our Nursery as ‘Goslings Nursery and Forest School’.

“Like Percy in his park, our pupils share our 110 acres of parkland and forest with lots of wonderful birds and mammals, and fascinating mini beasts too.”
