RESIDENTS are being encouraged to share wartime memories in Thurrock at a special event marking the 80th anniversary of the Second World War.

On January 23, residents are invited to a Memories Morning between at the Thameside Complex as part of Thurrock Museum’s new World War Two commemorative project.

Those attending will be able to reminisce about their wartime memories connected to Thurrock on the day over a tea or coffee.

All experiences shared will be recorded and archived for future use in exhibitions, events and publications.

Deborah Huelin, portfolio holder for communities, said: “The period between September 1939 and September 1945 represents a significant time in Britain’s history.

“There’s no better way to gain valuable insights into this war and its impact on the community – for both evacuees and those who served – than by hearing about local memories first-hand.”

Memories Morning will run from 11am to 1pm on January 23, and is one of many free events and exhibitions that will be held this year to mark the anniversary. Visit thurrock.gov.uk/museumevents
