A FORMER Primary School teacher has taken on a new venture.

Sarah Abbot packed up her desk after 12 years of teaching at Holy Trinity Primary School in Halstead and has launched three new Sounds Right Phonics Classes for Kids.

The classes in Sible Hedingham, Saffron Walden and Haverhill are specifically designed to get preschoolers and toddlers interested in early reading and writing skills.

Sarah said: ""After working in a primary school for 12 years, I will be saying a very fond farewell to school life and moving onto a new and exciting chapter.

"I am really looking forward to using my teaching skills and knowledge of early learning within Sounds Right Phonics Classes.

"I can't wait to offer fun, friendly and high energy classes to engage and educate children and their families on phonics and early literacy skills.

"These classes will really help children, and parents, to develop a love for literacy and feel prepared for the transition into school."

The classes are part of a UK wide syllabus, founded in 2016 by sisters, Charlie Day and Alex Burnside.

The classes, which are suitable for ages one to five, introduce a different letter sound each week, they also work on fine and gross motor skills which are essential for reading and writing as well as oral blending and segmenting, whilst opening children up to a world of literacy.

Alex Burnside wrote the syllabus following her career as a primary school teacher.

She said: "I saw a gap in the children’s knowledge as they came up to reception and thought it would be great to have a high energy, fun class that also taught early phonics.

"The main focus of the class is fun, but there is also a reason behind why we do each exercise."

Charlie Day, co-founder of Sounds Right Phonics Classes for Kids, added: "Sarah is extremely hard working and has lots of experience teaching phonics to young children, I know that her classes will do extremely well and we are ecstatic to have her onboard our Sounds Right Phonics team."
