A MAN is furious after his wall has been knocked down by a driver for the fifth time.

Stephen Amass, 50, who lives on Sudbury Road in Halstead, woke up to a knocked down wall in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He said it seemed the driver of a blue BMW was driving from Sudbury to Halstead and has clipped the curb before hitting his wall.

He then went on to drive across the road and hit another two walls.

Mr Amass, who works as a carer said the front of the vehicle had been destroyed when he saw the damage.

He said: "There are three homes that have been damaged.

"After crashing into the walls, the driver legged it, I'm told he had a row with his passenger who did not want to run away, so he punched them in the face."

Police were called shortly after 3.50am on Sunday.

The driver of the BMW and the passenger, who was found by police still in the car were taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We received a report a passenger in the car had previously been assaulted by the driver following a verbal argument.

"This had happened before the collision.

"Suspected drugs were found in the car."

The incident is not the first that has happened in Sudbury Road.

In 2014, the Standard reported a man in his 80s had to be airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge after being involved in a crash in the road.

As a result of that incident, Derek Smith suffered a shattered pelvis, an eight-inch-deep wound to his right side.

Mr Amass has seen his home damaged on five occasions from car crashes.

He said: "I felt gutted when I found out what had happened, only the week before another car hit my wall.

"I'm furious, dealing with two different insurance claims right now and in the time I've lived here, this is the fifth time my wall has been hit."

Mr Amass feels another incident is a sign that further action needs to be taken to improve the safety of the road.

He feels there is a desperate need for a speed camera to be installed on the 30mph road.

Mr Amass added: "It is so ridiculous how people are driving down this road.

"The road is 60mph before it reaches Sudbury Road but people are still doing that speed at times even when it comes down to 30mph.

"It is frightening, I live right before the blind bend and I'm often lucky if I get out my drive alive.
