A care home offered good tidings to the public when it held its very first fair.

Staff and residents at Halstead Hall welcomed visitors through the doors for the first time on Saturday for the Christmas themed event, which saw stalls set up offering a variety of gifts and food.

More than £600 was raised on the day, with proceeds going towards the resident’s fund which helps pay for special events and activities run by the home.

Care home resident Derek Neal was called upon to save the day and fill the roll as Santa. Children were able to visit Santa Derek in his grotto and give the low down on their respective Christmas lists.

Manager Heather Choat said: "It was a wonderful day with such a great atmosphere in the home.

"I am really proud of all of the staff, it has been a huge team effort from everyone at Halstead Hall.

"We have been overwhelmed with people’s generosity and support to put on a great day for our residents."

Bosses at the home say plans are already in place to host a similar Christmas fair again next year.
