Care home staff and residents came together to redecorate their front gates as a tribute to the soldiers killed in the Great War.

A display of more than 200 poppies was placed on the cast iron gates outside TLC Care Homes facilities at Blamsters Farm in Halstead.

Residents at the home, which offers specialist support for adults with learning disabilities and complex behavioural needs, used recycled plastic bottles to create the poppies, which were in place ahead of the remembrance commemorations on Sunday.

A spokesman for the home said: “Remembrance day and poppies are very important to some of the individuals living at Blamsters Farm and we as a staff team wanted to support them to partake in showing their appreciation, especially for the fallen heroes' in Halstead and local villages, by making a poppy display for remembrance Sunday and to add to the local community efforts.”

The display was one of a number set up around the town to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

A cascade of crocheted and knitted poppies was set up outside Halstead Library in Bridge Street. Another display of handmade poppies was also placed in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church.
