HUNDREDS of people headed along to Halstead's award winning park to get bonfire celebrations underway early.

The annual Guy Fawkes trail saw 24 effigies of the man who infamously tried to blow up the House of Parliament in 1605 set up around the Public Gardens.

More than 120 children took part in the trail as more than 500 people headed along to take a look.

Linda Hilton, Secretary for event organisers Friends of Halstead Public Gardens, said: "The weather was perfect, we had 24 Guys brought to the gardens from families and clubs in the town and even from outside.

"It was a wonderful atmosphere with a constant flow of residents and their excited children taking part in the guy Fawkes trail.

"I would like to say a big thank you from Friends of Halstead Public Gardens to everyone who supported and took part in this free event.

"Hopefully next year we will have many more people taking part. It is always fun to make a Guy and to come down and join in."
