A bumper weekend of activities will offer residents a variety of ways to mark the annual bonfire celebrations.

There will be a number of firework displays taking place across the district on Saturday evening.

Halstead Town Football club is working with Richard de Clare Primary school to put on a display which kicks off at the club’s ground in Rosemary Lane at 6.30pm. Gates will open from 5.30pm and tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children aged four and over.

The popular fireworks display at Earls Colne Primary School will also be taking place on Saturday, with villagers invited to head down from 5.30pm onwards.

Visitors will have the chance to enjoy an array of warm food and snacks, while youngsters will be able light up the night sky themselves with glow sticks.

Tickets are £6 for adults and £5 for under 16’s.

Those attending are urged to arrive early due to the limited number of tickets left.

Anyone unable to make it into the Earls Colne firework display can hop across to the neighbouring village of Colne Engaine where another show will be taking place at the recreation ground.

Hot food and mulled wine will be served throughout the evening. The bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm and fireworks will be set off from 7pm.

There is another display taking place at Colne House, care home in Station Road, Earls Colne, on Friday evening.

The display gets underway from 5pm today and visitors will also be able to take part in a raffle.

Home manager Amanda Schofield said: "We have fabulous grounds for this type of event and we hope local families will come along to support us."
