THE Stane Street Players turned Earls Colne Village Hall into the ideal setting for The Titfield Thunderbolt.
The first-night audience was immediately seduced into the action by the human train of fabulously Fifties-attired actors.
Kath Moore’s delightfully realised continuo character and charismatic Kim Richardson’s commanding face-off with a very committed Alex Jones were ably contrasted by the serious intent shown by Jamie McWilliams and Trevor Lawrence.
Nic Mason’s unexpected, outstanding a cappella rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, was a glorious touch, while Jayne Tarbun’s vamping plus Roger Hearne, Alan Meekings and Jim Leaney’s efforts provided ballast.
I assume that inspirational director and exceptional understudy John Sanders got his cast off stage at future performances.
