Ten batteries used to power temporary traffic lights in Witham have been stolen.

The industrial power packs worth £1,000 each are believed to have been stolen between last night and 7am today.

According to a post on Essex Highways' Twitter, the theft meant the lights at Catholic Bridge in Colchester Road were not working.

The theft is not expected to interfere with planned lane closures beginning at 10pm tonight and running until 5am tomorrow.
